Following the illegal beach mining allegations, the state government had set up a special investigation team to look into the matter. However, it has been observed that the coastal population has shown little faith in the inquiry team. The members of Fishermen United Front have been seeking a CBI inquiry.
The State Government suspended all mining activities in the South when illegal sand mining allegations against VV Minerals India surfaced. While no allegation has been proved, the government has set up an investigation team to reach a conclusion.
Vaikundarakan, founder of VV Minerals, has denied all allegations and stated, “It is a ploy by business rivals to defame the company.”
V Sundaram, a former IAS officer, in his letter alleged that government lost nearly 90000 crores to illegal beach mining. He also claims to have received threatening phone calls for his comments in the media.
In his email to the state’s chief secretary, Niranjan Mardi, he said, “I derive my constitutional right to serve as a fearless whistleblower under article 51A of the Indian Constitution.”
He insists on fighting the gigantic public corruptions and demands adequate and immediate police protection from the Tamil Nadu government.
There is no evidence to support the involvement of VV Minerals in the matters concerning illegal mining or death threats.
VV Minerals issued a statement denying all allegations. “Mr Sundaram’s complaint against us is a publicity stunt. He has joined hands with our business rival Mr Daya Devadosan. We came out clean earlier after an inspection in May and this time too we will come out clean,” said the lawyer for VV Minerals, S Ravindran Duraisamy.
Over the last few years, VV Mineral Vaikundarajan have been under harsh criticism. From being accused of illegal sand mining to having powerful political influence, several allegations have surfaced without supporting evidence. VV Minerals India, however, has denied all the allegations against him and deemed them as a conspiracy by rival businesses to slander his company
